Eric Sigma

Eric Sigma was just one of those cards that were just redundant. It was overpriced and had a written tribe for its type which really made players only want to use it in Insaine decks. Even with the ability being practically universal the card just felt weak especially when compared to the lords that each tribe has amongst their ranks anyways. Additionally, with the errata on the Gregory Jones card, it only made sense to have Eric Sigma have a cost reduction to allow the card to even compete. The last point I would like to make is that the card did not have some form of alternate cost that made it cheaper as with many of the other Insaine cards. The fix for this card was to remove the tribe from the card as it would make it more universally available to other deck types. Second, the power was made to be equal to the number of characters of a certain type that you control. The last fix was that the card received an alternate cost to make it usable as well in decks that did not have money within them as more cards need to be created that merge the game types together. While it is true that Epic Characters and Shadowwalkers are supposed to emulate the mechanics from several popular games, the deck types need not be restricted from the inspiration from which they were derived.

Free Spirit

This is another card that was seriously overlooked by a lot of players. Heck I even have to change the rulebook due to a certain little exploit that this card takes full advantage. Shall I explain it? Okay so here is the exploit, right now the game does not state that a character can only attack once per turn. So cards like the Free Spirit here can take advantage of the fact that it can activate to move a card back to the active zone again and thus again! Another card that has this exploit is the rather powerful Death Reveler card. Taking these changes into effect the Free Spirit is not as powerful as it once was and now costs two instead of three. We all know my spill about cards that are rather expensive and Free Spirit here is just too much upkeep to make good without being cheaper to make better use of her abilities. The Girl faction is yet again receiving many buffs as unfortunately the tribe is still the worst in the game and I am doing all I can to make it better.

Blood Boiler

Some interesting trivia to add in regards to this card is that this was actually the first monster design for the Last Violent Prophecy RPG game we are making. However, the artist that drew this piece left the team early on and luckily we can still use it on cool things such as the Blood Boiler card in the UCG. This card was so bad in its first rendition, it cost way too much for what it did and like any bad card in the game at playtest sessions was completely bypassed for better cards. Cards like these always need to be changed. I chose a really interesting card I always enjoyed from Magic the Gathering-Spike Soldier. This card was especially cool because it could use its counter to get bigger to deliver that deathblow to your opponent. This is a card that would greatly benefit the Demon tribe to give them more power to especially use the Demonic Temptation card because this will allow you practically with about 10 money cards you can give the card plus eighteen power until end of turn!!! I do plan to use this card in a Demon deck and I hope you it as well alongside the other power house demon cards that were added the last errata list to destroy your opponents.

Disturbing Thoughts

This card had a major type where you had to discard the card Feast of Souls; I so did not copy and paste the ability. Anyways, the typo was fixed and I guess to fill up this article with some trivia in regards to this card as it has a lot of lore to it. To begin the discard ability for this card was one of the cards that were always exploited by John and me all the time in our control decks. At one to play, each player chunking a character is really powerful especially in multiplayer games. This ability can really wreck a lot of players that like to play characters or heck the decks that depend on one character to cause havoc to opponents. The main flaw of this card was it had no penalty really to the player that uses it besides paying one resource (big deal). This rendition of the card actually has a requirement of playing the ability where the player playing the card actually had to rid of one of their own characters alongside the opponents affected by it as well. This makes players have to utilize more expensive destruction cards in its place because this card is meant for multiplayer games and players that have expendable swarming characters. The card is by no means bad; this ability is the cheaper discard ability of the initial kan up to three characters and draws three cards initial affect.

Covert Operative

Before the errata, this was a very powerful back in the day and I mean back in the day like when the game first came out back in the day very powerful card that was part of the old Spawn Tribe. The Spawns were one of the highest ranking tribes in early LvP Classic and especially since they had a four to play auto resurrect card that made your graveyard into a resource and it was absolutely broken. Cards like his old version that made players lose their top six cards and then utilized with cards that made the card lose all of its abilities made this card powerful beyond recognition. Now in the modern days with the UCG and cards with full written abilities about them, this card was one that players soon started to look over. The card needed a change and I chose to change it to another LvP Classic card called Bumblebee. He’s been spoken about before HERE. This was back when the flip cards were in the game and are currently planned for the next UCG set when I also introduce a slew of new card types. Regardless, this card is now a non-flipping version of Bumblebee that actually keeps it ability to get counters and also allows you to use the Money generated for any cards besides just Effect Character cards. This Gangster along with the Ninja Technomancer I do plan to see in more decks besides the Gangster tribe deck. The card will also be a welcomed early game addition for the Gangster deck which will allow them to generate enough money to play more expensive Gangsters and Effect Characters.

Punk, Agent of Trance

Punk, Agent of Trance was very interesting card to design. The card actually triggers when it attacks instead of when it would deal damage as with several cards in the game. It is always interesting to make a card that triggers different than most other cards currently in the game. Examples include “I am a big card I come into play and do something like blow up a card” or “I am a small card I come into play and make you draw a card.” These cards are always good to have in your deck, but a lot of experimental deck designers like something more compelling than predictable as most derivative cards. There was actually nothing wrong with this card besides the fact that it did not designate where the Gangster character came from that you would put into play whenever it would attack. One really devastating combo with this card that I just noted as I was making this article was you can play multiple of these guys hmm, we might see you again Mr. Punk. I will let it flow for now as I am curious on how powerful it will be and also as the Gangster tribes is one of the lower tier tribes in the game currently.

Jeff's Erratas Volume #9

Originally published on May 25th, 2012. Hello to all and all well met. This is Jeff Crain, the Chief Project Coordinator here at Starcat Products and today I am going to bring you some changes to the UCG. This time the erratas were more focused on making the Gangster faction member count grow and adding some additional affects to various underpowered cards. The members of the Gangster faction were very limited and almost all of them had about three or four money costs. This tribe against top tier decks such as the guy deck and the Sharvan deck would not even stand a chance. Some changes needed to be made and I am here to bring them to you in full detail.

Cards Being Crafted

30%The Commit Sins: The Commit Sin cards are some of the fundamental cards in the Universal Card Game. We have currently commissioned the artist Henri dela Cruz to draw each “sin” card a panoramic picture that when placed next to the other sin cards will form one giant picture! This will be really neat once we have them done, as the sin in the world is entwined with our everyday life. It would be very flavorful to have the sin cards interlace to make one giant picture.

0% The Darkness Status Effects: In the Universal Card Game there are the three Inquisitors of the Inquisition. Did you know each of them has a name? That is right! Arcanist of the Inquisition has the name of Cass Havana, Templar of the Inquisition has the name of Khane Avanarus, and the Warlord of the Inquisition has the name of Ross Undersong. These character each wield a cursed weapon given to them by the Architect of the Flesh. We want to show the fall of these proud warriors with the “darkness” status effect cards that deal with the removal of various characters of specific designators. Similar to the “sin” cards, these cards will form one collaborative picture.

5% Tinkerer Ayaka Lizzy: Ayaka is one of the most powerful character cards currently in the Universal Card Game. Her artwork, while extremely good, is from the source material from which is was created for. This picture is not the best for a very powerful character card. We hope to commission the artist Val Hochberg that actually drew Ayaka on Riptor, Sharvan Elite to draw a unique artwork specifically for Ayaka’s character card. We have to wait until the beginning of June, but once we hear back we will keep you posted!
